Happy Light The Night participants!

We love the Bay Area and we are proud to give back to the community that has given us so much. Throughout the year, we donate gift certificates to schools, animal rights organizations, and environmental organizations for their raffles and auctions.  We’ve also chosen two charities to participate with every year in order to maximize our energy to the greatest effect.

In 2004, earth & sky oasis started volunteering with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walk www.lightthenight.org.  For the past 4 years, we have raised thousands of dollars, donated our services to Light The Night participants and walked the Light The Night Walk ourselves.

In 2007, we began our relationship with Working Essentials – a non-profit organization that provides personal hygiene and job preparedness items for people who are homeless in San Francisco.  www.workingessentials.org/.  Working Essentials helps people look better and feel more confident, greatly increasing their ability to secure and maintain employment.  The recipients get toiletries and haircut vouchers along with counseling on how to gain employment.  Working Essentials accepts donation of un-opened toiletries, especially hotel samples.  During our collection campaign, our donation bin overflows with the generosity of our clients and the de-cluttering of our cabinets.  It feels great to be part of a program helping the homeless help themselves – and to clear out all those samples from under the sink!

Green Zone

In our urban retreat, we are always looking for ways to “green” our business and lower our carbon footprint on our planet. By now, most of us have heard of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, 90% of which is estimated to be plastic bottles.  In January of 2007, we stopped providing bottle water to our clients and stopped all delivered 5 gallon plastic barrels of “spring” water.  Of course we still offer our clients water, we just filter it ourselves.  We maximize natural light wherever possible throughout our retreat thereby reducing our dependence on electricity.  We personally recycle our paper, glass, plastic and aluminum waste and have installed compact fluorescents wherever possible.  We use only non-toxic, biodegradable dye & perfume free laundry detergent and because our sheets are a special blend of lighter fabrics, they take 50% less drying time.  Our massage products are all organic, our skin care products are the latest in environmentally conscientious formulations, and we only provide natural nails.  We will continue to look for ways to nurture our planet through responsible operating practice and we welcome any suggestions from you.  To date, earth & sky oasis urban retreat is proud to be featured in Green Zebra, the Greenopia and Green Home Guide.
